Venus Beats Kuznetsova
Not quite a Silver Sager, at 38 years old, Venus Williams knocked 33 year old Russian, Svetlana Kuznetsova on the court to win today’s match. Perhaps Venus’s last show at the big U.S. Open, she dealt 114 mile an hour serves in the sweltering heat to ultimately crush the younger player. As I pounded away a few miles on the treadmill while I watched, I cheered every point Venus made. An iconic player and certainly a rock star on and off the tennis court, I was only rooting for Venus. On Wednesday, Venus is back on the court to showdown with baby face Camila Giorgi (26 yo).
The women of tennis are bigger and stronger than back in my day of Billie Jean King, Chris Evert and Monica Seles. But the women of today pack a bigger punch, stronger back-swing and much tougher game. It’s an exciting game to watch. The finesse, athleticism and psychology involved is inspiring to anyone of any age.
Join me in watching the U.S. Open and help me root for Venus!
