Top 4 Ways to Show You Care for Caregivers
Being a caregiver whether as a home care provider, in a community health care setting or as a family member can be stressful and difficult even in the best of times. COVID may put emotions in overdrive for many caregivers.
It is always important to let your caregivers know how important they are to you and your family, but even more so during trying times. We put together some great ways to support your caregivers!
- Stay Connected. Whether you check in via Zoom, Skype, FaceTime or any other platform, it is nice for caregivers to know that people are checking in on them, too. A quick call, text or email can show your support and let the caregiver know that you are there for them and appreciate what they do. We call in weekly just to make sure everything is okay and if they need anything from us.
- Safety First. No one wants to get COVID, so making sure your caregiver is protected is important as well. Offer personal protection devices for them for their car, home, etc. It is always nice to have more than one. Providing gloves, sanitation wipes, hand sanitizers, etc. will truly show your support. We make our own hand sanitizer and give it to each caregiver along with free refills.
3. Gifts of Appreciation. Many home health care agencies do not allow their caregivers to accept large gifts. However, nominal gift cards for gas, big box stores, restaurants near them, etc. are always appreciated. Flowers or chocolates are also a nice way to say, ‘thank you.’ Any small gifts to show you care about your caregivers is a nice touch. Every so often, we send a pizza delivery so the caregiver can enjoy a nice lunch or dinner break with their client without having to fix another meal.
4. Personal Notes. Writing a short, personal handwritten note (on cute cards) is a nice touch to leave for the caregiver. Thanking them for their work and showing our gratitude is priceless, especially in this digital age.
So what are you waiting for? Your caregivers need you, too.
