September Checklist
As the weather starts to get colder and the leaves start to turn orange, yellow and red; September brings us various things to think about.
- Plan for Emergencies. Learn or relearn first aid and CPR. Plan for a household disaster such as hurricane, tornado or fire. Install the USA emergency app FEMA.gov/mobile-app to receive up-t0-date safety tips, weather alerts ad other important information.
- Self Defense from Insects. Yellow jackets, ticks and fleas get more active during the start of fall with the temperature dropping. Remove fallen fruit from your yard, close outdoor drinking containers, inspect your hair, body and clothing after walks outside. And don’t swat at wasps. Remain calm and they will typically fly away.
- Free Museum Day. If you download advance tickets on smithsonianmag.com/museumday you can access free admission for two to hundreds of cultural venues across the USA.
- HVAC Check. Time to replace the air filter on your air conditioning unit.
- Celebrate. We certainly can’t list them all but let’s start with National Wildlife Day (2nd), Brazil’s Independence Day (7th), International Literacy Day (8th), World Suicide Prevention Day (10th), European Heritage Day (13th), Mexican Independence Day (16th), Rosh Hashana (29th), and Active Aging Week (22-29th).
