October Checklist
Ghosts, goblins and little trick-or-treaters will soon be knocking at your door. There’s still more to do for October:
- Flu season is beginning to flare. The CDC recommends most everyone get a flu vaccination. FluMist has been reformulated to boost effectiveness for those up to 49 years old. Get your shot when you’re in the best mood to boost immune response.
- Prevent frozen pipes. Some areas have already received snow. Never leave your house under 55 degrees, keep exterior hose bibs trickle just a tiny bit and insulate vulnerable interior/exterior pipes with electrical heat tape or foam insulation.
- Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. If you don’t have them, get them! Most fire stations offer them free during the month of October.
- Host an Ocktoberfest for neighbors and friends or visit a local winery during October.
- Celebrate. The 1st was International Older Persons Day, National Poetry Day (3rd), World Teachers Day (5th), World Mental Health Day (10th), International Sloth Day and World Osteoporosis Day (20th), National Mentoring Day (27th) as well as Druga Pusha (4th-10th), Global Diversity Awareness Month, Emotional Wellness Month and National Book Month!
