New Jersey Enacts Statewide Paid Sick Leave
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) has signed into law the New Jersey Paid Sick Leave Act, which will provide eligible employees with paid leave for their own medical needs, those of a family member, or other covered reasons. This will be huge for caregivers and others who have medical needs. The Act applies to all employers with employees working in New Jersey, including temporary help service firms, regardless of company size. All employees working in New Jersey will be eligible for paid leave under the Act, with the exception of: a) construction employees working under a collective bargaining agreement; b) per diem health care employees; and c) public employees, who are already required to receive paid sick leave. Employees may begin using paid sick leave on the 120th day of employment, unless the employer agrees to an earlier date. The Act will take effect on October 29, 2018. Learn more HERE.
