Day of Terror on the Capitol

After a day of terror and chaos on our nation’s Capitol, Congress formally affirmed Biden and Harris’s President and Vice President victories just before 4 am ET today. The Senate and House easily defeated Republican objections against delegate votes sent by Arizona and Pennsylvania. Although Trump promises an “orderly transition” of power come January 20th, he did not promise to cease inciting violence and rioting on that day from his beloved cult “Patriots.”
Many Republicans condemned Trump’s behaviors. Several took their courage in their vote and cast their ballots for Biden. Others condoned Trump for fear of his reprisal. Or perhaps because at their core they believe in Trump’s myopic views. What has happened to our country? Where do we go from here? The chaos, hate, anti-everything has once again risen from the ashes since Trump took office four years ago.
Our hope is with President-elect Joe Biden and VP-elect Kamala Harris. Order, civility, peace and respect for all people will be a focus of this next tenure of Presidency. Yes, we will need to fight the pandemic, terrorism and return our economy to a stable and growing state but we will need to do so within an intentional, just and thoughtful way.
Violence begets violence. Let us hope that it ends now.
