Did you know that the CDC publishes a weekly Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report? Neither did we until recently!
Other than the typical morbid and depressing facts and information regarding COVID, the week of June 24-30th had a survey of nearly 5,500 Americans regarding caretaking experience related to their emotional and mental well being. The numbers are staggering. With more than 40 million unpaid providers in the U.S., 90% are related to the person they care for and of those 66% reported at least one adverse mental or behavioral health system in the month prior to taking the survey. But wait, it gets worse. More than six times the average person who is not a caregiver, thirty three percent of caregiving respondents reported anxiety, depression or substance use; and nearly 31% of those also reported having serious suicidal thoughts.
